“Instructional Design Funnies” – Beyond Gamification for Behavior Modification

In the following episode of The Big Bang Theory, neuroscientist Amy manipulates beau Sheldon to change his mind about “Date Night” – an institution that Sheldon has only reluctantly agreed to participate in by way of their “Relationship Agreement,” the contract that spells out the terms of their relationship. At first Sheldon mocks Amy’s attempts to reel him in using an experiment based Ebbinhaus’s research on memory. In the experiment, Amy manipulates Sheldon into associating pleasant memories from his childhood with her and Date Night. The experiment ends up proving too much for Sheldon and, much to his surprise, he declares that Date Night is something that should be done “more often”.
